Buzina de Bambu_edited.png

The Dessana tribe from the Amazon utilizes the Buzina de Bambu as a customary wind instrument during their rituals. On the other hand, the Buzina de Motor imitates the sound of boat horns from vessels traversing the Black River in the Amazon. Another woodwind, the Buzina Tariano, was created by Caribaia, a native of the Train tribe, and is employed to summon neighboring tribes during times of celebration.

The Flauta Cotia, carved from Paxiúba wood by the Tarian native Caribaia, is a female flute primarily used to initiate the Dance of Cotia during rituals in the Alto Rio Negro.

The Flauta de Jupati employs a similar system to the Vuvuzela and has a rod constructed from Jupati tree wood.

The Flauta Dupla, an adaptation of the Greek Aulus flute, consists of two flutes played simultaneously by indigenous tribes.

The Flauta Indigena, a traditional flute played by various tribes across the Amazon, is another instrument in this collection.

Finally, the Flauta com Cariço, also known as Tarúzupá, is a versatile flute that can be played anytime, making it widely utilized for festivities and other occasions.

Mawako Femea_edited.png

The exquisite collection features eight Mawakos, each with distinct characteristics and purposes.

The Mawako de Bambu is a bamboo instrument boiled by the Tarian native Iavy, commonly used in Maloca dances.

The Mawako Fêmea comprises three instruments exclusively played by women from the Dessana tribe, primarily used in hunting rites.

The Mawako Macho, on the other hand, is played by men.

The Mawako Infantil is specially crafted for children to play.

The Mawako Tariano features thematic engravings specific to the Tarian ethnic group.

After their festivities, the natives break the Mawakos by stepping on them to make way for new ones to be made for future celebrations.

The Yapurutu Pachiúba is a remarkable instrument crafted from a Pachiúba rod, banana straw, and beeswax. Legend has it that the Uirapuru bird dwelled inside the instrument and played it by itself. However, once the bird departs, men must play the instrument themselves.

An adapted version of the Yapurutu employs a PVC tube, electrical tape, and durepox. This instrument is commonly played during dancing festivities.

Unlike other wind instruments, the Yapurutu has no holes along its body. Musicians can create a variation in sound by adjusting the intensity of their breath.
